There are three main categories of art; Realism, Abstract, and Nonobjective. Realism, (of course), is a piece of art that looks as though it were real. This is probably one of the more opinionized forms of art. What may look real to an artist may not to the arts other viewers; What may look real to the arts viewers, may not look so to the artist.
Unlike realism, that in which has to look real, abstract and nonobjective have no limitations. Nonobjective art actually needs to look fake, because nonobjective has no objective. By that meaning: there is no pressure about what to make, or how to make it. It is all up artist. All nonobjective artiststs have to do, is make sure their nonobjective art, has no absolute resemblance of anything in the real world; otherwise the art would fall into the realism or abstract category. Abstract lies between realism and nonobjective as far as what is required of the three.
Abstract does not need to look real, nor does it have to look like pure imagination. Basically when doing abstract art, all that is required of the artist is to take every day things (whether it is an object, place or living thing), and distort it to however much or little they desire. Even if to the extent that only the artist knows what his piece is supposed to be of.
In conclusion, whether an individual is right or left brained; either could succeed in becoming an artist; all they need is a piece of art to show for it!
